Wild Battle sounds like a rendition of Gen 5's wild battle music (the best one) with the melody layer missing. There's nothing distinguishing about it. Weakest ever.

The trainer battle music is a little better but it's still not as good as XY's.

The instrumentation is disappointing after XY had the best in the series. I hope the rest of the music is better than this, not that Pokemon ever really disappoints in that department.

I can generally accept that except Sinnoh so high. It doesnt sound particularly interesting. Like, the most "generic" a vs Trainer Battle can sound. Though I'm not saying you can disagree. At least we agree on Hoenn, that was complete shit and the only one I actively dislike.

I also have a hard time deciding between Johto and Kalos, I think it would be better to say they were equal. Though I do get the "generic shonen" complaint Kalos gets.

If you can't hear the melody in the wild battle theme, just ignore the trumpets. The piano is the melody, and it's along the same melodic lines as most other gens' wild themes. The brass material is just little interjections between phrases. My only complaint is that the brass should be quieter in relation to the melody, and perhaps the drums are a bit sporadic at some points.

Much better than gen 6.

Gen 6 had a couple of decent battle songs, but the good ones would only be heard a couple of times throughout the game, and 90% of the game you're hearing the generic as fuck trainer battle or wild battle themes

Also, the gym leader battle themes are what I look forward to the most and xy dropped that ball hard

Colress battle theme is better than anything in XY and SM so far. ORAS uses Hoenn like instruments since it's a remake so it doesn't count.
