help me

the rotomdex might have given us a big hint at how many pokemon happens to be in the alola region
>>
If 3 Pokemon seen equals 1% of the Dex seen, there'll be 300 Pokemon in the dex.

>>
>>28027344
if 1 pokemon equals 1% of the dex then there will be 100 pokemon right?

but what if it counts pokemon you haven't caught

so 3 pokemon being 1% of the dex would be how many pokemon?

it's late and i suck at really basic math
>>
>>28027359
>>28027373
Damn dude.
>>
>>28027359
It may be 1 or 2 under or over 300 just in case they round
But still you are correct

unless it rounds the first number greater than zero to 1% (i.e. 1/721 [current pokemon count] would still round up to 1% and wouldn't tick over until ~14/721) in which case its probably approaching infinity.
>>
Odds are the percentage would be rounded off (unless it is to 100%) so at 1% it's not very clear but it most likely 300 or more.

Well shit, 300 total Pokemon HAS to amount to a large number of new ones, right?

Maybe 120 new Pokemon + 30 Alola forms + 150 old gen Pokemon
>>
>>28027405
You clearly didn't play XY.
>>
Say if 1% was generously rounded down, like it was 1.99%. This puts us in range anywhere between 101-300~ Pokemon

Alternatively, if it's counting mons captured, 1 pokemon being 1% means we're looking at closer to 100 mons.
>>
If the alola dex has 300, around 100 alola mons sounds right to me.
>>
Well 300 is only likely to happen if every gen 1 pokemon gets a alola form. But since they just show 1% and leave out the digits after it like for example 1.75% it could be that it might be close to 2% making it 150-200 pokemon.

Source on the rotomdex screencap?
>>
>>28027456
No, what I'm trying to say is that having a huge regional dex says nothing about the amount of new Pokémon. We cannot tell or estimate how many new Pokémon will appear based on that alone.

>>28027476
I love you anon. Always will.
>>
>>28027471
Does anyone have the list of older Pokemon seen in SM gameplay? If we take a leap of faith and say EVERY Pokemon we've seen in gameplay will be in the Alola region (I doubt it, but hey) we can subtract that number from 300 and see how much we're left with. Subtract the amount of revealed/known about Alola mons and we'll see how much breathing we have left of newer mons.
>>
>>28027395
Oh also, we are rapidly approaching 800 Pokemon now, I seriously doubt there will be less than 300 in almost any new game from now on.
>>

Rounding means the range is .05% to 1.499%.

So, there's something like 150 to 450 Pokémon in the Dex.
>>
>>28027344
>>28027359

If you combine all of the Kalos dex's, there were 454 pokemon in the Kalos dex and only 70 new Pokemon

Hard Deconfirm on any Leak talking about the starters having split evolutions.
>>
>>28027570
what if they only evolve once? :^)
>>
>>28027570
hard deconfirm on there being less than six Pokemon in the dex
>>
>>28027570
Not saying SM will have them, but why the fuck would they purposely show two white Poke balls indicating split evolution stages when people know those symbols mean stages/forms? It'd literally spoil them having split stages. If they DO have split evos, the obvious course of action would be to hide the 3rd Poke ball symbol when releasing trailers and shit to avoid ruining the surprise for the players
>>
>>28027602
When has pokemon EVER done this shit? Seriously, name one other time.
>>
>>28027602
Well, it's not the amount of white pokeballs. It's also the numbers. If there were extra evolutions existed there would be more empty spots between each pokemon, and Litten would be number 5 instead of number 4.

(Still might have alternate formes tho. Iunno.)
>>
>>28027359
Wow that's already 154 less Pokemon than XY. SM is finished.
>>
>>28027534
Aren't you reading? I'll throw in some logic to make it simpler for you.

A: The regional Pokédex is huge
B: There are a lot of new Pokémon

A -> B is what you're trying to prove. Its table is

A|B|A->B
T|T|T (The regional Pokédex is huge, therefore there are a lot of new Pokémon)
T|F|F (The regional Pokédex is huge, therefore there aren't a lot of new Pokémon - this logic is inconsistent, therefore a fallacy)
F|T|T (The regional Pokédex is small, therefore there are a lot of new Pokémon - it can happen this way too)
F|F|T (The regional Pokédex is small, therefore there aren't many new Pokémon)

Given the first two are plausible (A is true already), we don't have a tautology. Thus you cannot suppose the amount of new Pokémon given the dex size.

Bottom line: have a bit of patience and don't get worked up for nothing.

>>
>>28027664
But they're not hiding the dex entries, they're right there
>>

>>
>>28027344
>>28027373

>>
>>28027570
>>28027634
Wrong. Split evos would be forms, not separate Pokemon. So there would still be only one dex entry, and it would only show one white Pokeball.
>>
>>28027786
???? im 23

or is this comment bait to bait me into being baited

in any case fuck off if you won't contribute to the math
>>
>>28027570
have you seen Oricorio, if the starters do get multiple forms they'll all be under one number.
>>
>>28027806
>claims to be 23
>has the intellect of a 12 year old

>>
>>28027795
>Split evos would be forms

This just in, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon, and the rest are now different formes of eevee and share the same pokedex slot.
>>
>>28027816
That's forms. Evolutions and forms are two different things. I'm totally down with starters getting different forms.
>>
>>28027559
Normally this would be correct, but computers don't round like that; they just remove everything after the decimal point. Obviously they can be made to round properly, but seeing as this Gamefreak code, that 1% is most likely anything greater than 1 and less than 2.
>>
>>28027856
This just in, Wormadam cloaks are now separate Pokemon.

What I mean is, what people are calling "split evos" are just alternate forms. They would have the same name and Pokedex number but look slightly different.

For the record, I'm not sold on the split evo thing anyway.
>>
>>28027874
That's a good point. So it's either 100-199 or 300-599 depending on if it counts seen or caught.

I think it's worth noting that these things usually do not count event pokemons for Dex completion, such as Volcanion, Megearna etc.
>>
>>28027850
>projecting

anyway
>>
>>28027373
1 x 100 = 100
3 x 100 = ???
>>
>>28027570
haha epic meme my friend, maybe you forgot that wormadam exists and shits all over your retarded opinion. wormadam is one pokedex slot, one name, but three different designs, three different types, three different movepools, three different sets of stats.

do you think they will have three different pokeballs in the pokedex for wormadam? of course they won't, the page will be 1 pokeball for burmy, 1 for wormadam and 1 or mothim.
>>
Is this "I can't into absurdly basic math" garbage a meme? Seriously, how are you fuckers so bad at this shit? Am I just dramatically overestimating the amount of math that people know when I assume people can do everything up to about pre-cal?
>>
>>28027344
No. We can't use the Pokédex to estimate how many Pokémon Alola will have because we don't know how this Pokédex rounds numbers. 3 Pokémon seen might as well equal to 0.003% but is rounded up to 1% because anything greater than zero is rounded up.
>>
>>28028036
Reminder that this is 4chan, and the people here are dumb. Actually dumb.
>>
>>28028026

I'd be hard pressed to call Wormadam a split evo in the way most of the people talking about the starters getting split evos mention it, though.

I think a better example might be Rotom. 5 wholly different forms, all sharing one dex entry.

Yes we can, there are at the very least 300 different entries if the percentage is regarding seen, at least 100 if it's regarding those caught.

I'm assuming that these bars are going to represent each island, the final bar being reserved for the national pokedex. Not related to thread, just an interesting observation.

Four separate pokedexes for each island does open up a possibilty of split evos... If it wasn't for >>28028026 and >>28028057
>>
>>28028057
if "split" starter evolutions happen i imagine wormadam is similar to how it will go. very similar designs but slightly different to justify the form.

rotom would work too, but rotom can switch between forms which wormadam can't do and i imagine the starter evolutions will be similar to wormadam in that regard. but in essence yeah, same pokedex slot, similar looking design for cohesion with the rest of the line, but slightly different at the same time
