I'm replaying every generation as a hype fuel before Sun/Moon, RBY was great, Jhoto is my favourite region and I consider HG/SS to be the best installments in the series, so I was VERY excited about my journey, but then it hits me.
The II gen designs are really... weird.
Look at Ledyba. Ok, it's a ladybug, we got it. Just like butterfree's a butterfly and beedrill's a wasp. It's got gloves, so it can punch, punch at very high speed, like the "five star" dex entry implies. Kenshiro reference, why tho?
What pissess me off the most is its evolution.
Don't get me wrong, I love Ledian, but is it really an evolution? it's still a ledybug, it still got gloves, it still punches fast.
It's even... smaller? Or at least that's the feel I get, no design development at all, I'm just... It doesn't feel right.

The bodyshape IS bigger, hell its even bigger in contrast to its evo than dewgong is. Not to mention your point about the eyes is subjective as hell since the same can be said about seel's and dewgong's own.
