Its the most safe choice in the world. Animal with fire coming out of its back like spikes has mass appeal, and all it does is gets bigger.

HGSS was the Pokemon Go of its time; a shallow game made purely to pander to nostalgia. It didn't fix the inherent flaws of the G/S (poor level scaling, poor pokemon variety, poor post-game content), and instead just pushed dumb gimmicks like Following Pokemon, the Pokewalker, and the Pokeathlon.
