Kinda odd seeing the owl's apparently real evolution when several of the art Rowlett does have depicts him having this green leafy foliage inside his wings while this guy has these orange tinier patterns (which I assume to be hidden arrows because otherwise, where the fuck does he get his already crafted arrows from). Oh, yeah, he takes out already crafted arrows from his wings, you probably weren't aware of that. Somehow. His face just entirely changes too. Almost everything changes.

People say the tiger is a drastic change, which I won't argue, but Rowlett here looks like a whole other species. Then again, the cat somehow turned into a tiger. People won't be able to tell that his colors actually reversed (instead of being black with red stripes, he's red with black stripes). The siren/selkie looks entirely different too apart from its nose which looks smaller and the dark blue skin/gown. The frills look much paler too. The whiskers just simply disappeared too and are absent. Her whole design makes it seem she's entirely white and she shed her old skin (which kind of goes hand in hand with the selkie mythology). I know we don't have middle forms, but I'd still would like to know what just made Popplio suddenly gain this lavish blue long hair out of sudden as well as the horns.

And with Popplio3 I can to an intetesting conclusion. I was thinking since Popplio looks like a clown & that it's most likely not going to keep the ''clown theme.'' I was thinking that maybe it's based on a class of performance or entertainment. (Clowns, singers, magicians, acrobats, athletes, etc.)

Popplio evolves from being a clown a profession that is often mocked and looked down on , to evolving into a singing idol which is respected and given much more value. (Which I assume is Poppmaid)

It's like a reference to the ''ugly duckling.'' Or a rags to riches interpretation.

Not that guy, but if Popplio was meant to be a acrobat circus performer merely (let's assume he doesn't have any clown influence), then this supposed evolution of his (Seal3) still seems like a pretty big jump theme wise.

The most we see her do in the concept art is sing and make these tiny bubbles. We don't really see her doing anything dynamic like Tiger3 or Owl3. The most she does is stay still.

You can argue the evolution having advanced as a performer, but it's still quite rather odd. The frills almost make it seem like a "maiden of the sea". Unless she happens to be a singing maiden that entertains (that's how supposedly the name Entermaid came from), I'm not entirely sure.

Rowlet3 is quite literally a Barn Owl wearing a hood. The proportions, the coloration, the overall shape and appearance are spot-on. Barn Owls live and hunt in open spaces, so they have long legs to snag prey out of tall grass. They are light golden-brown above and pale below. The distinctive facial disc and fluff around the beak are seen clearly in Rowlet, and it grows into the body plan of an adult Barn.

The face under the hood is a bit different, reminiscent of some other species like a Spectacled Owl or a Brown Wood Owl. The hood is on par with Greninja's scarf, the bowstring and arrows similar to the weapons used by Blastoise, Samurott, and the Kalos starters. I do agree with you that the tiny orange patterns are probably hidden arrows.

All the transitional stuff may be covered in the middle evos, or it may be a drastic change! Combusken certainly felt like a natural expansion on Torchic, but Blaziken went in a different direction. I'm a bit surprised that Rowlet3 doesn't have a more Barn Owl-like face under the hood, but I'm guess they wanted it to be more expressive. The dark eyes and unusual face are cute on baby Rowlet, but more anime-style eyes make the evolution more "readable" and less potentially unnerving.

Yeah, the body seems to be more barn owl-esque, it's mostly the head/face that is strangely anything but that of a barn owl and might be more in reference to a spectacled owl or brown wood owl.

Back when Torchic was my first starter, it certainly surprised me having Blaziken all of a sudden, but given how Combusken already had Fighting type attacks, I guess I sort of saw it coming, even if Blaziken looks quite different.

Apparently, Torchic's japanese name already alluded to him turning like Blaziken (Achamo is a combination of akago which is baby and shamo, a breed of Japanese chicken once raised for fighting).

Which makes me think on how much japanese starter names actually allude to their final evolutions or if they don't actually mean that much. But Popplio's jap. name (Ashimari) seems to allude to sea lion and ball put together, Rowlett's jap. name (Mokuroh) is twig and owl put together and Litten (Nyabby) is apparently a combination of nya (meow), tabby and hi (fire).

Honestly, DI's creations fit the best with the starter name descriptions (dark wood owl resembling Mothman, Ballio uses water balloons as a weapon). Litten's is very generic, but with how it is being described (coolheaded, logical, passionate), the panther-esque design works well with it.

Shame they are fake. DI may not be a Pokemon artist, but he really did put some thought into their designs.
Not that Popmaid and friends aren't well-thought either; but they do seem to favor one gender over the other, with Archowl being that exception. And imo, Archowl's design looks too forced, like an attempt to create Greninja 2.0 for Gen 7.
