Xros Wars is decent. The strength comes from the lead, who is actually a cool guy and genius strategist.

The last guy (Tagiru) is the worst thing to ever come out of Digimon, though. Loud-mouth, stupid, annoying, yet all the other protagonists show up to be his power-ups. His season itself is pretty much mindless filler aside from a few eps.

Did I say Tamers was better? Savers had brief periods of joyful pokemon-like comedy episodes.
A bunch of inconsequential mons died vs mons we were taught to care about getting killed.
Tamers had a pretty in-depth explanation for its interpretation of the digital world which was really quite interesting.

"Genoside" of unimportant wildlife happens in tons of childrens shows.
Tamers killed off characters we had a personal connection tor just heartlessly killed off characters that were sympathetic.
Tamers even introduced the idea that you don't get to atone for your sins if the victims don't forgive you. That's alien to childrens cartoons in general.

The first few seasons haven't aged well when it comes to the dub is all I can say.
Terrible jokes, music that never stops playing, mediocre acting on some scenes, lousy inaccurate script etc.
I liked Data Squad's dub because it actually avoided most of the things listed above.

I'll admit nostalgia is shielding the dubs for the first 3 seasons pretty well.
I like that Tamers didn't simplify anything when translated, it would have been so easy to turn a lot of the talk into technobabble.
I'm not a fan of Data Squad's main theme in either language but that's inconsequential.
Out of the first 5 I'd call tamers my favorite but 02 my least favorite.

Xros Wars is great the first third, and has its moments the second third but I didn't like the dynamic in it as much.

The last third, Hunters, which stars that other guy you mentioned, is pure filler. Some of the filler can be fun as a slice of life type thing but as an over arching story it's terrible and the MC is pretty shit.
