I have one of pic related which I use to play some Gen IV and V games on an old NDS "phat". It is running Wood R4.

Is there a way to run this guy on the 3DS and also to play GBA games with it? I want to get back and enjoy Emerald and FRLG.

You can't use a flashcard with poketransporter

However if you have CFW/homebrew then you can extract the .pkm in pokegen and drop it in PKHeX to convert it to gen 6 format and then inject it in your save file

An r4 doesn't actually install anything on your DS, it just loads what's on the SD. It's a long time since I did mine but I'm pretty sure it comes preinstalled or you just have to download, drag and drop the files into a micro SD.

Remember that old flashcarts won't work on dsi and 3ds, so if you ever intend to upgrade to any of those consider buying a more recent one.
