She likes Pokemon, but she doesn't like the competitive aspects of it. I don't mind her not being into that stuff, I barely am myself, but she seems to be outright repulsed by optional ways to give the game more depth because she considers it alienating to casual players like her and actual kids even if it's completely optional or not difficult to understand or use at all. Shes enjoying the customisation, Amie and minigames a lot, but I think her interest has waned now that she's about midway through the game.

Gen 5 took a lot of risks, don't get me wrong there were some things it did right. But it ventured so far outside the box in terms of story and Pokemon design that it rubbed a LOT of old fans the wrong way. The franchise lost people left and right when BW dropped.

Only now do I find myself appreciating a good amount of gen 5 mons, but even then it still has the largest amount of bad designs of any gen to me. Story still shit too.

I disagree. Phone emulation is the easiest and fastest way to play Pokemon. The emulator I use (John GBA Lite) has instant save, instant load, a speed up button to go through the battles and move a lot faster and you can edit the layout of your buttons.
