Pokemon for 3ds

Get an r4 card and play any of the ds games first. Platinum or Black/White is a good starting point to get back into the series

Its not terrible, and it is better than Sapphire because it IS Sapphire, just with extra bits and all the improvements time brings. Its one of the weaker entries in the series as a whole but its still a fun game, especially if you haven't played in a long while.

XY is in a similar boat, but if you're going to go with one or the other I'd go with ORAS.

Alternately if you feel like going back a few generations and finding copies, BW and then BW2 are good options. BW has a brand new selection of pokemon with none of the old ones for the main game, which I personally was into but it bothers some people. BW2 is a sequel as opposed to the usual third version improved remake that takes place 2 years (I think) after and continues the story with a new protagonist. Its also got one of if not the best post games if thats important to you.

Duh, if you had fun with Sapphire get Alpha Sapphire. It's a great game, specially if you have played the originals.

If you want pure nostalgia get alpha sapphire but if when I came back after a 5 year break I got Y and loved it. Its new and different but has a lot of old Mons and good new ones
