I'd say 7 minimum. I've always really liked it. I like Magnezone too, but its design is kinda doofy-looking.

What I love about Magneton now is that it actually has some merits over its evo, namely some semblance of speed and eviolite

Purely on a visual level/as a monster unto itself it's pretty high - right up in 8 or 9 territory.
However, as a Pokemon, with Pokemon being analogues for something you would encounter in real life, Magneton is one of the absolute weakest ones since it doesn't really represent anything at all. It has a loose sci-fi, mystery technology thing sort of going on though, so 'one of the weakest' doesn't mean bad at all...

So, like... 7.6-ish/10 I'd say.

If you delve a little deeper you'll find that almost every Pokemon is based on something. True, some are based on ideas or stories but even then they are based on stories and ideas cast on to things. Like with ghosts or fairies they're based on folklore to explain mysterious things like stuff falling over or going missing or whatever. The Pokemon is an analogue of the creature from the story and of the incident itself; keys going missing, et.c.

Just because they mightn't be based on real living things doesn't mean they don't have a real life analogue.
