Minor cameos or supporting roles are okay, just that juggling all the character quirks, interactions and gimmicks of all the various protags would get tiring real fast. If they did something like the Kanto vs Johto Gyms arc but with protags instead would be interesting and lots of room for the characters to express themselves.

If you wish, you can actually read HGSS before DP since it happens before in the timeline, but it doesn't matter that much

Not particularly. I just posted a page that was originally colored, so the art looks more rich and detailed as a result. Yamamoto can draw some kickass foliage, for example.
