Gamefreak isn't adding any megas at all in SM. This isn't to remove them; this is to push their new battle mechanic.

Mega stones will return in the post game. They will either be available in similar ways to the previous gen, or there will outright be an NPC who will give you the stones when you bring the relevant pokemon to them.

Besides Salamence and Rayquaza who were broken, ORAS did a wonderful thing for the Pokemon it gave mega evolution and it would be a disappointment for them to make a step backward by removing it.

I hope it's a postgame thing, but if it's gone Z-moves better have a more expounded purpose because so far they're nothing more than Fissure or Sheer Cold with a pretty animation.

problem with megas is that most of the shit tier pokemon who received them are still shit tier and the ou that received them are now uber. A few low tier pokemon rocketed (kang) but thats due to bad game design.

If the goal was to make shitmon viable, its not going very well. Either remove megas totally or give all pokemon a mega.

Every legendary pokemon that can change form has always been able to change form past the game it first appeared in. Deoxys always has meteors to change forms, Arceus always has plates lying around, the DNA Splicers returned in Gen 6 for B/W Kyurem. Therefore, I guarantee Diancie will always be able to become Mega Diancie—meaning Mega Evolution is here to stay.

I wish they would have done megas better. They should have made it so ALL starters had megas and ONLY starters and box legends (plus Mewtwo, who is the de facto box legend of gen 1) could get megas. Megas on pokemon that don't have 3rd forms could have been slightly nerfed and made into standard evos (M-Mawile in particular should have had this).

It would have made those signature pokemon, the starters and box legends, much more important without adding ABSOLUTELY STUPIDLY BROKEN shit like Mgar, Mkhan, and MMence.

Realistically though they aren't dumping megas, just sidelining them. They'll be available postgame probably.

And they've made shit like Salamence even more dominant in literally every meta. All of the shitmon megas are basically still directly inferior to the big 3, and the one mega per team restriction guarantees they get cucked by Gar/Khan/Mence.
