Gen 4 because HGSS are the best games in the series, Platinum is the 3rd best and the PMD games and Ranger game were the best in their respective series as well as the best side-games yet.

I know so many good and bad details of every gen I can no longer identify a ranking of favorites.

I liked 3 the most. The Pokémon designs are just really nice.

3 is only above 1 because FR/LG are better than the originals. I like Hoenn but its one of my least favorite regions.

HGSS are easily majority of the fanbase's favorite game.
Pt is what DP should have been.

B2W2 is GameFreak's love letter to its fans. (Gen6 is the breakup)

I just really love the Stadium games. I want to experience playing those games with custom built ingame teams again. That was what Pokemon was for me growing up.

Gen7 looks really promising. It cannot possibly be worse than Gen6.

Yeah, D&P were slow, but it gave the series a boost, in terms of Evolutions for Pokémon that needed them, the Physical and Special split, and Pt did what it could to make up for it's shortcomings. The Post-Game was okay, with the return of the BF, and there are a shitton of Pokémons to catch.

I never said I hate it. You misinterpreted my list. I do think HGSS are overrated, but I also love those games myself. Pt was an amazing addition to the series. Originally my post was 2 paragraphs of listing every positive and negative of all gens, but I thought that was stupid. So I shortened it to my main points. My post originally said that DP were revolutionary for their time, but aged awfully.


Gen4 is painfully slow and that makes it terribly hard for me, personally, to replay those games. That may be different for you and others.

Been playing since gen 1, and B2W2 solidified gen 5 as my favorite.

Closely followed by gen 4, then gen 3, gen 2, gen 6 and then gen 1.

3 was when I stopped, 6 was when I started again, I've found much love for many pokemon from various gens after going back and playing the games I missed but gen 2 is still my favourite, silver and gold as well as soul silver and heart gold.

IMO all you need for pokemon is a DS.

You get 4 Fantastic games.

Platinum for enhanced phys/spec split, A great gym run and Battle frontier

HGSS for Gen 2 remake nostalgia, rebalanced and with extras like rebattling gym leaders and following pokemon

B/W for the best story in pokemon and an overall fun new adventure

B/W2 for enhanced gameplay and tons of extra content and national dex mons. and easily the best online time period.


The only things you miss out on are Gen 1, which is horribly outdated at this point even compared to 2, Gen 3 Emerald, which is a shame, and the atrocity known as Gen 6.

DPPt gave the series absolutely nothing other than ugly as fuck pokemon and a shit game. None of the pokemon needed new evos. They needed their stats, move sets and typings revised, something which new evos fail to do by just stacking a new pokemon on top instead of fixing them.
