If we don't count Ash passing out, Ash Greninja has lost two battles. The first battle against Alan's Mega Charizard X (when the transformation was still incomplete) and the first attempt against Wulfric, vs his Avalugg (transformation still incomplete and mostly Ash being completely unable to focus). After completing the transformation, Ash Greninja has dominated every on-screen battle so far.

It's so painfully obvious that the match will be interrupted by Team Flare. From there it could either be an actual tie and no winner declared, or the more likely option of one person (probably Alan) winning, but in a contrived way because of Team Flare and he admits how the other one really deserved it. This way we have an excuse for Ash to keep traveling while still showing he was stronger.

There is always the option that Ash wins the league, but cant go on to the E4 / Champ because of the damage caused by team flare, so decides to go to Alola for a bit and do whatever there. Alola has no pokemon league so its a bit different from his past adventures.
