Those sprites remind me, as a kid my brother told me that Croconaw and Feraligatr are blue and I refused to believe it because the sprites are green. I think it wouls actually look better if it was green.

I don't think the design really changed. I think it's just because the eyes are far apart - in 2D they only ever showed one side of its face, but in 3D you can see the whole thing and it doesn't look as cool. Also the movements for the 3D model are a little silly (Totodile always cracks me up).

The murky bluegreen might've been nice to keep, though (but like an anon said, they changed that back in Crystal). I think all of the pokemon suffered a little from the washed-out model palettes, even if they were Sugimori-inspired.

Looking at the OP, a big difference to me is that the sprite was top heavy (small legs and big arms) plus he was a hunchback, so in that pose it looked like he would move by crawling like a crocodile, he looked feral. The model on the other hand is bottom heavy (big legs, big belly) and standing straight in an awkward pose so he just looks goofy.

I think most of the models were fine, but the fucking animations and stances were what made them shitty. Especially if you were used to the lively pokemon stadium animations.

Look at fucking delphox, it's like they just took the default T pose and lowered it's arms, and called it a day for it's stance. People probably would have liked it a lot more if it was hunched over, twirling it's stick wand like it's official artwork.
