Aromatisse is exclusive to Y and evolves by trade while holding an item so if you're willing to go through all that I'd go with my favorite fluffball. Maybe that's just my instinct about avoiding stone evolutions though.

I legit don't see people's problem with it. People say stuff like "...well it can't use the swords because it's quadrupedal" but it looks dexterous enough that it can remain balanced while striking out with the sword, and the XY model confirms this. And the sword on its head is a problem, somehow? It looks cool, it's a conch shell styled like a samurai kabuto. Best part of the design is its helmet honestly.

Then there's Dewottfags but don't see anyone complaining about Cyndaquil becoming bipedal. It's just a lot of undeserved hate for a really cool Pokémon.

Which is why it is seen as a step back design wise from Dewott. Dewott can do everything Samurott can do while still keeping with the whole samurai theme.
Samurott can't because it doesn't look very stable when on two legs. And in the anime it remains on all fours, just launching out water and ice at enemies.

Even before it was spammed to hell and back, it was never particularly well received here. Many consider it a disappointment to the previous too but I've always felt like it completed a sense of progression in the line quite nicely. I feel like the Rhyhorn line in general is dissappointing. Rhyhorn looks amazing, one of the best designs. Rhydon looks completely different, not as tough, not as cool, and doesn't really fit. Rhyperior really doesn't fit imho, his design is overly spherical, weirdly colored rock bandoleer, and an overall hentai "ugly man" aesthetic. Somehow also bland.
