500 eggs so far is pretty normal. I'm not a serious breeder myself, but I've gotten extremely lucky at one point and hatched 2 shinies (Croagunk and Yanma) in about 5 eggs each. Obviously, get a jap Ditto or something and the shiny charm if possible then run around with Slugma or Talonflame.

If you want a hard hunt, go for Staryu. Magikarp, Feebas, Carvanha, Tentacool, Barboach and Corphish are pretty easy.

From experience, I've chain fished everything possible with Suction Cups, but I got lucky once not using Octillery and plain leading with Drapion. You reduce your chances not using a SC mon, even if you're fishing near rocks. If you want to be consistent, then have a fainted SC mon in front and something in your secondary, but you won't get the Synch, unfortunately.

I've been breeding for a shiny larvitar for a couple days now on ORAS. I have the shiny charm and am using the Masuda method. I'm nearing 600 eggs now but no shiny yet. I've bred other shinies with lower total eggs. Why haven't I gotten a shiny yet? I'm just super unlucky right?

Shiny Zigzagoon 7 minutes into Sapphire.
Shiny Onix, Persian, and Camerupt in Pearl.
Shiny Weepinbell and Amoongus while horde training in Y.

I've hatched a few of them, traded for a few, gotten some events, but I've had the genuine experience several times.
