I've tried this guy
he just doesn't put out enough damage
if he could even learn sword's dance he would at least be able to do something with a motor drive up
as it stands he has wild charge, quake, cross chop, ice punch? none are quite enough

Electivire was kinda wonky even when it debuted in gen 4. Then the surprise factor was pretty much removed.

I hope after SM when they make remakes of the regions, instead of adding new features, they redo movepools and stats. Electrive either needs more bulk or more speed, and better stab moves.

Thunderbolt doesn't have recoil. Recoil is a big deal, especially on stuff like Electivire where your godly coverage is needed and you want a Life Ob. It seriously hinders longevity. For a recoil move to be worth it, it needs at least 120 BP.

A combination of multiple things. It looks good on paper, but its terrible in practice.

First, and most prominently, 95 speed is indeed pretty bad. Speed should not be read as a gradual increase in effectiveness in tandem with the stat points. It has tiers. 95 is short of the critical 100 benchmark for sweepers, so it's not going to be competing in speed with anything, it'll almost always be outrun by offensive pokemon. This is the same problem Hydreigon has, but Hydreigon has a lot more going for it than Electivire does, and lacks issues such as Electivire's frailness, and even Hydreigon has problems due to that speed tier.

So it's speed is pretty bad. It's ability is also pretty awful. Again, it seems good on paper, but fails in practice due to the rareness of electric moves, and the fact that no one would even want to use electric on it to begin with. The common strategy to resolve this was to pair it with Gyarados for the infamous Gyaravire strategy, but it fails pretty hard. Reason being is, assuming the obvious bait and switch even works and nets you a speed boost, well you may not even BE in the position to sweep. Getting that boost effectively in a situation controlled entirely by your opponent will very rarely allow for a chance to sweep. Sweeping doesn't just happen when youre faster than all of your opponents pokemon. You have to take out key counters/checks, and most importantly soften the enemy team up.


123 attack is good, but its backed by weak BP moves with no way to boost, so it's massive movepool doesnt net improtant 2HKO's and OHKO's.

The cherry on top is, there are no truly powerful physical electric moves available to it.

I run Vital Spirit over Motor Drive cause no one ever expects the sleep immunity. Darkrai fags on Battlespot fall for it every time

Fighting. Learns Low Kick by level, gets tons of Fighting moves by breeding or TM.

If it's an Alolan Form, you can go hog wild, though. All bets are off. Too bad Alolan Electivire will never be a thing because muh genwun.

this is about as comprehensive and correct an answer as you can get.

It's not much better in doubles either. You don't need to rely on the opponent to active motor drive, so it may seem ideal, but it just doesn't stand up to the other options in the electric typing.

Give it a mega and have it get Moxie, Iron Fist, or a new ability that increases the damage on super effective hits to 2.25x, 4.5x on quad effective hits.

Also, have it get a signature multihitting move with it's cables that is of several different types(Electric, Steel, Dark, Flying, Dragon) to completely cover the type spectrum.

The 95 speed was obviously there so that he needs MotorDrive to sweep, but rock attacks seem to be more popular than electric against flying types, and grass are the same when it comes to water types.

Wasn't he OU in the gen he was released in? I mean not many Pokemon stay in OU for more than a few gens

It's pretty good in NU I feel, mostly due to the movepool!

It's really close to being good - maybe a little more speed or bulk.

I also agree with what others are saying about Wild Charge not being the greatest move to have.
