Realistically speaking, how many new Pokemon, excluding Alola

~120-130. They're working with the same system as they did for XY, and although they may be using a new engine it's not that different really. Black and White followed the same pattern and introduced 156. Instead of focusing on things like rendering all of the models of Pokémon, implementing megas, creating a 3D world for the first time, they have more resources to spend on new Pokémon.

100 new Pokemon, and 20 to 50 Alola forms is pretty fucking fair considering that we just had the lowest amount of new Pokemon for a new generation, and they aren't wasting time and attention on modeling old gen Pokemon.

80-90 at most. Alolan forms take the place of "thing that takes almost as much effort as making new pokemon but not actually a new pokemon" exactly like megas. Expecting more than 100 is too optimistic.

This sounds about right. 110-120ish new Pokemon, +20-30 Alola Forms. Megas still in the game, but no new ones (for now anyway).

Regional Variants seem made specifically to give us new content but slow down on the number of new Pokemon. Its silly to expect 130 new Mons now. I'm thinking they don't want the number rising to quickly
