If there's actually any merit to this, and I'm skeptical because it's a safe bet to assume all leaks are fake without any proper evidence, I don't really have a problem with this. Mallow seems chill, "protag" sounds like he'd make a nice counter to Ash, instead taking up the role of the rash newcomer while Ash mellows out a little and becomes a more experienced member of the group, perhaps even ending up as the season's Brock (albeit still with a drive to complete all the Alolan challenges). It'd be nice to see him take a step back every once in a while.

Although I'd prefer "protag" to catch the Mimikyu and a small rivalry form between it and Ash's Pikachu. I think that'd be fun.
