Honestly I can only see them going into limbo, never changing or getting added to, but always shoehorned into games

Best outcome would be removing most megas and making the rest evolutions or forms

For some they really were, but the good they did to the pokemon that needed a boost was all that was needed.

Also, Megas aren't going anywhere. Even if they don't make new Megas this gen, mext most surely, kust raking a small hiatus after the sheer number they introduced.

This. Megas don't make sense anymore. They clash with other stuff, it would make sense to make gen 6 "unique" with megas. And I even like megas, I just want a fresh start, they're already seeming to ditch other gen 6 stiff too like exp system

Megas were not a mistake. This is fact, for one simple reason: they made them money.
