If you have a DS or DS Lite you can get the original R4, it's like $5.

If you have a 3DS, it's a bit more complicated. You need to patch the TWL FIRM, which requires kernel access on the ARM9 processor.

Buy an R4 if you want something cheap, or a dstwo if you want more features. The dstwo has a processor built in to the cart which allows it to bypass Nintendo's piracy checks no matter what they do.
