There's also the fact that Night Slash's Japanese game, Tsujigiri, is the name of a practice where samurai would take a new weapon and jump out at a defenceless person and try and kill them with it to test it's effectiveness. Night Slash being a blade, as opposed to a claw, makes more sense for the name.

You do realize Night Slash has never had a specific animation in the anime or any other medium outside of the games which isn't even a specific animation either.

Hell the Japanese name for it is called Crossroad Killing and what it is referencing is, what do you know? Swords.

According to the games, there's no actual water involved with Aqua Tail, and waving your tail around is enough to make a Water-type attack.

The anime does stuff like this so that there's a difference between the attack Aqua Tail, and the Pokemon just hitting another Pokemon with its tail.
