A few get boosts from just being more recent, or having had more appearances in multimedia over so many years. But the middle gens are easily the most forgettable, and least impressive. 4th gen at least had a few quirks to their teams to make up for unremarkable character designs. 3rd gen didn't have that advantage. I feel like 5th gen having the really dynamic themed rooms made a huge difference as well.

I remember all Elite 4, Champions and Gym Leaders, all you "they're not memorable" people are just casuals

I wouldn't say Malva is that forgettable. She's the one who welcomes you to the League, and you see her a couple of times when she broadcasts stuff. Also I found it pretty cool that she was actually part of team flare. Sadly, a lot of potential was wasted on her character.

platinum league was such an upgrade from one of the most ridiculous league teams to the most challenging one
double team u-turn yanmega still triggers me tho

i like how HGSS gave like 6 decent pokemon for the league rematch but most of them had shit sets that let Platinum be more difficult despite the maximum of 5 mons per elite

i think they intended to balance the 6 member teams but holy shit, some sets were depressing and lance's team was the most retarded rematch team for a champion, followed only by oras steven stone's offensive carbink and aerodactyl just because, plus mega metagross with a worse set than its first encounter one...however lance has a special dragonite with draco meteor that becomes a free set up bait and a double team perish song altaria, you can't make this shit up
