It's why the term "character of the day" was coined, because they never, ever come back, even when the group promises to see them again someday.

Small problem with this argument, the Pokémon League work differently in the anime than it does in the games.

In the games you just need to beat all the Elite Four and the champion, you can also rechallenge them any time you want. Meanwhile in the anime you enter a tournament with every other trainer that collected enough badges and when you loose once you're eliminated.

Do you have the same attitude towards people who get far in real life Pokémon tournaments that you have towards Ash? Because Ash makes it pretty far in most leagues. Right now in the anime Ash has made it as far as the finals, he'll loose but being the second best trainer in the league is no small feat.
