"Addicted to memes!", "memes are my life", nobody talked like that before. People liked internet memes, like Keyboard Cat, Hampster Dance, Numa Numa and shit ages ago, but now any picture they find funny and post on Facebook is referred to as a meme, and there's a lot more awareness of meme status. I blame rage face comics, which were the first thing to be called "memes" by the mainstream normiehood, and it all devolved into "ironic" memeing, which was acknowledging how retarded low quality memes are, while being equally dumb itself, and this particular strain of cancer is its offspring, post-ironic memeing. Maybe through Poe's Law, the wrong crowded got into it without knowing it was supposed to be satire in the first place. Maybe it became so mainstream it lost its satirical edge. Whatever it is that happened, normies were at fault.
