most likely they are not pirates. While they do have a skull motif you need to look at everything else they are wearing. a lot of there clothing is very inspired by Urban street wear. even the 'S' that makes up the team logo is done in a very graffiti type font. these guys look more at home in a rap or hip hop video then a pirate ship. there leader even has stereotypical rapper 'bling' If they are more of a street gang than a traditional 'evil org' that would be a refreshing change. another note is that Gangs basically get new members by recruiting disenfranchised youth so that might be what the screen shot is about.

Are you kidding or something? Don't you remember all the dialog from Sycamore and the one or two times Diantha mentions how he used to be a philanthropist? He used to give and give away to people who couldn't make their own way in the world. That's why he appreciated Diantha's acting, for example, because she made it her life goal to make people happy. It was the same for him. But he saw that everything he gave was being taken away by the strong and there wasn't enough to go around. The game is pretty unclear up until the final battle and there's a lot of vague dialog about his backstory but the game makes it very clear he was once an optimist that became jaded as he learned the way of the world. I don't know why people seem to think Lysandre's motivations were vague or anything. It's VERY, VERY obvious. He was like a textbook good guy with bad means. Even the people in the game are like "well you're right but the way you want to handle isn't the correct way!"
