Once they felt satisfied with fighting mechanics and graphics after gradually improving them for 20 years, they finally decided to try something new.

Not that I've had a problem with the last 6 gens following the same formula - I've always found it charming - but this really is exciting.

I only remember that being the case in HG/SS, ever other game were easy as hell.
