I have the Squirtle, the outside is as soft as it looks (except for details like the eyes and shell design, of course). The head is filled with soft stuffing but the torso has a beanie-baby like feel. So it's not the squishiest toy in the world, but it's sturdy for its light weight and can sit up on its own really well (as opposed to pokedolls which can be pretty flimsy).

To be honest I don't know much about babies. I don't see any safety hazards, the kid would probably like touching it, and it would likely last longer than if you gave them a pokedoll instead (though some of those can be soft as well). It might be hard to clean though.

Sanei is the brand, Like Tomy or Banpresto. They make Pokemon under the All Stars Collection line. I'm not 100% if they're sold at Pokemon Centers, but I think they are.

You can buy them from Amazon. Like, not 3rd party stupid high prices buy them, but Ships from and Sold by Amazon for about 17$ with Prime.

Just search for Sanei Pokemon. They even had the Snorlax, Ditto, and Wailord for a few weeks. I got almost all of them. Very nice plushies and the big ones are so squishy and soft.

I really want plushies. But I'm a single 30 year old with a career. I actually just get embarassed when family comes over and sees the dolls on my dresser that I actually keep on my bed but I moved just so it doesnt look like Im sleeping next to it

That's complete bullshit. Official stuff is on average better and has higher quality control. Most of the plush from the pokemoncenter is minky fabric which is very soft. Bootlegs are a gamble, you might get one that looks like the picture or you might get some fucked up mess. They also tend to be off model, people who don't know what a pokemon should actually look like will think it looks fine.

Well vetted bootlegs for things the official plush haven't covered yet are alright if you're not overspending (protip: you're probably overspending), but be aware of the horror stories that have occurred more with Pokemon bootlegs than any other bootleg plush I've read up on. I believe it was a Groudon or something someone received that had stitches open on one side and upon investigation they found fabric pins left inside the stuffing. Bootleggers aren't being paid to quality check thoroughly so mistakes like that can happen.

If you select private warehouse they'll let you store items for up to 60 days after paying for them so you can combine more items to ship. Unlike Amiami, etc. they give precalculated quotes for shipping upfront instead of being a surprise when you get charged. For large plush that won't fit a SAL small packet shipment it may be cheaper to pick the more expensive options that are just dependant on weight, since SAL parcel is shit.
