We've been able to dig up a very early design of the starter evolutions and we've decided to share it with the community.

-The names of these evolutions are: Kusuro (Grass/Flying), Torahi (Fire/Dark), Suiren (Water/Fairy)
-Those are actually 5th evolutions and that is what the starters will share with Rockruff. Our sources are concrete here.
-Synchro evolution will make an appearance. To achieve this enhanced state of evolution your Pokemon must have max happiness and it can only be done once a day, rendering your Pokemon unusable after that.
-The starters and Rockruff will also have a sixth evolution starting at level 100 that changes type depending on the island they've evolved in.
-The starters and Rockruff will have their own dual type Z-moves corresponding to their final type
-Mega evolutions will make a return with second stage Giga evolutions for every Pokemon that had a Mega evolution in Generation 6 + All starters up to this point except the Alolan starters.
-40 New Pokemon will gain Mega evolutions, including: Weezing, Luxray, Noivern, Weavile, Lickylicky. Sadly, Mega Flygon will not make an appearance

We'd also like to add that the X on Mallows hair is likely connected to the X on Kusuro's design. This is the only part that is not 100% confirmed.
