Counter and Mirror Coat are surprisingly useful. Not as much as a normal attack would be, but its definitely possible to level with them. Its just really slow going.

Ideas for HG? I learned about the secret primo eggs and though dis gun be gud wit special 'bilities, egg moves n' shit. Nope, just plain ass lvl 1 pokemon, two of which i could easily have caught at a higher level in the grass right next to the town. Slugma was kinda nice in this part of the game i guess but:

Working on Light Platinum now.

I haven't played pokemon in ages but I'm playing through Heart Gold now. I started with totodile but dropped croconaw for red gyarados since croconaw looks dumb. I'm also training a nidoking because nidoking is cool.

From what I can tell, the best strategy is to give all the exp to only one pokemon. Is that accurate? Are all pokemon games like this or are there that encourage team building?

1 Pokemon CAN work but its better if you train an entire team so you dont have any weakness but its up to you, personally i think team building feels nicer at the end

I don't plan on grinding for experience so won't all my pokemon be underlevelled if I try to train a full team?

Also, is there anything that gyarados + nidoking can't beat? I know nidoking nullifies electric and resists rock, covering gyarados' weaknesses.

well what i do is that i switch pokemon every 5 levels between my main 6 so say charmander is at 10 then when it gets to 15 i switch to my level 10 magikarp then at 15 i switch to another and so on till the cycle restarts and you will either reach the elite 4 with the same level as them or a bit underleveled but the type advantages will still give you the upperhand.

There might be better methods to team building but thats the one i use.

Theyre pretty strong but im sure there are some types they dont have covered.

Adds a little bit of a challenge. Starters are always really good and help you win easily. I usually turn the starter into an HM slave now and force myself to rely on Pokemon that aren't starters. It's fun having unique teams and making new bros; I never would have expected Azumarill to be The One, but he's an official bro now.

On my nuzlockes I rarely lose many pokemon cause I play it really safe, so to make more difficult to me during Gym battles and E4 battles I dont use healing items
I lose 5 so far, and 3 of them were crits :/

I loved my team the first time I faced the E4 and lost my two favorite(Scizor and Gliscor) pokemons to Cynthia
Then during the post game stuff I lost another two from the original team(Dustox and Rhyperior)
I had to grind 4 pokémon to rematch the E4
Lost my magnezone to Will, face Cynthia again with only 5 poke available
Houndoom sweeps because I set up 3 Nasty plots against her Spiritomb(it had nothing against Houndoom)
I was so happy and at the same time mad because I lost my two favorite mons in the first match up and then just sweep her

Started my first AS (Sapphire Hoenn is my favorite region) run after getting a 3ds and playing through X. I wanted to play with mostly all time favorite Mons, so I started the game with a Sableye and Onix Egg and boxed Treecko until after the second Gym. Still unsure about the Skarmory, it's one of the very few Birds I like, but I love Mega-Steelix so much and it kind of does the same thing and the type overlap annoys me a bit. Suggestions for a Flyer and a Sixth mon (I love Defensive shit as you can see)? Just finished Aqua Hideout.

Same, I never bothered with it before - decent attack, interesting typing (despite the 4x bug weakness), but all his strongest moves are special & he gets screwed over by being a stone evo. He's been surprisingly useful this run, though.
This is my first time using Xatu as a longterm team member, though. In my last Drayano run I used an Altaria as my flyer, much better addition to the team.

Playing Omega Ruby just got to Mawville. I really need a ground type for this gym, can someone please trade me a Golett so I don't have to over level my team.

Jellicent is the best avaible but it leaves two pokemons with ghost and dark weakness
I suggest an Azumarill
It has good bulk and with Huge Power it hits like a truck, also you need some good Phys Attaker on your team

I thought I'd try and use Pokemon I loved the designs of but never had the chance to use. Haxorus, Swanna, Chandelure, and Braviary turned out to be fantastic, even if the latter hit a point where he really struggled alongside the others since Rufflet evolves so late and he was battling against pseudo-legendaries.

The Black 2 team was originally five, but the Lopunny I was using in the fifth slot just dropped off the edge of usefulness by the eighth gym so I abandoned her in favour of focusing on those four. I felt like the team was competent enough that I didn't need to train up a fifth or sixth member for it to still work.

Kingler is acceptable. High attack and low special means he struggles, but Surf and Ice Beam gave it decent coverage with Strength as its primary attacking move. It's extremely slow but it's probably one of the heaviest hitters in the first generation. I feel like the later-gen power creep didn't treat them well, even if it finally has access to Water type moves that can benefit from its huge attack stat.

I would use a Skarmory for OR since it'd mesh with the team well but I used one during my previous (and first) playthrough of the game so I'm inclined to use something else because of that. Most of these teams consist of Pokemon I've never used before, or Pokemon I never gave a proper chance to use, so I'm avoiding the ones I have already used for that reason. I already have a flying type anyway in Masquerain anyway, who can hit decently hard with a Quiver Dance or two and a surprisingly good movepool. I can't wait to find the TMs for Scald and Ice Beam to take advantage of it.

For my Gloom, what would people suggest, a Vileplume or a Bellossom? I'm inclined towards the latter but I know that's just because I've never used one. I feel like Solar Beam, Sunny Day, Dazzling Gleam, and Moonlight would work well with its Chlorophyll ability and provide a little support to my starter Blaziken by strengthening his moves with Sunny Day.

I think bellossom would fit well on your team, but vileplume has a great satk and stab with sludge bomb so either of them will do well
if you don't want to use skarmory again, then you need something for your flying weakness
Mawile is a good choice and in OR you have acess to its mega
Aggron is nice as well

Mawile and Aggron suffer from the same problem as Skarmory. Mega Aggron through Y, Mega Mawile through OR! Thanks for the suggestions, but I think my attempts to avoid previously used Pokemon makes it difficult for anyone to suggest anything. Just me being difficult I guess. Sandslash does help cope with the flying weakness with Rock type attacks though, so I'm not too crippled by it.
