Fuck anyone who is making an argument of how childish it is or "it's just a game!" sort of thing.

But it does worry me that the companies have this sort of information. Sure Facebook and others already have a lot of it and that worries me too and it should worry you as well, but it does not excuse Pokemon from the accusations. It's not alright. Pokemon Go has access to your camera and to your movements in the map, it has pictures of your house and it builds up the greatest database of that sort of thing. Google Maps is accessed by anyone, but the information of how we move in Pokemon Go is just theirs. The way a game has altered the physical world, if anything, to make a bunch of people gather in a particular spot, is something we have never seen to this extent. So far we've noticed Pokemon Go is more or less random about the spots and the mons that appear, but potentially a company could buy a Pokespot or a gym, not even in the pathetic plan to attract people to a particular restaurant or something of that kind, but to revive a certain part of town that is up for real estate speculation.

And if you trust Niantic and Google and understand that they are in their right because we agreed with their terms and they just want to give us what we want (in the same way that your feed reflects your interests), consider that you have absolutely no tools to tell if this agreement is ever broken and your camera used for other means, for example. And even excluding that possibility, you have no way to tell whether a group of highly skilled people, anarchists as well as governments could break into their systems (or allowed within) and use these informations for other means. Their defense may be top notch, but then again, top notch attacks up to it could not be detected.

A government could spy on people through it, or even use it to make tests and gather even more data. For instance, Facebook could change a little number and have 10 million otherwise unrelated people receiving slightly more depressed things tagged "sad" "death" and see if the word shows up more and in which kind of people does it work, or if suicide rates increase. They can make trends, they can hype a certain fabric that could spike the economy of some south east asian country and profit from it. They can speculate about anything. Pokemon Go is just one more piece of this puzzle and I wouldn't be surprised if they are right now running ways to tag all of the Pokemon we catch, where we catch, what the camera filmed, where people like to go and so on.

Again, criticizing the game for being Pokemon or something is complete shit. It's fantastic that people are going outside and interacting to the world. These "zombies" would not be looking at the sky if Go didn't exist, but playing some other shit in their homes instead. Now, I love Pokemon and Pokemon Go is a dream come true, but I would be lying if I said I'm not worried and that this looks like an episode of Black Mirror.

The other day Youtube recommended me a video about internet addiction and there was this guy recommending in a very honest way that we should unplug a little and not see the news anymore. It felt like a real good advice, then I had a hit of paranoia thinking an algorhythm could have made that appear to me specifically to turn me off the news. Not that I'm particularly important or something, but could be a collateral affect of some algorhythm change that affects millions. The scary thing is not that we are prone to be fooled, but that there wouldn't be any "a-ha" moment where we would realize we were fooled, we would just, I don't know, eat more burgers because we think we grew to love burgers more in a natural way, when we were actually influenced by our timeline in a subtle and indetectable way.
>>

>>
>>27612287 here

Also, it made me think how that guy could be totally honest about it, not a shill trying to fuck me up, but one more person influenced by his timeline to get to this conclusion, by companies that know he has an active youtube account and so on. People would be fooling on each other without realizing, just expressing themselves and in turn, making a group of few people profit from all that fuzz.

Nothing, the image speaks the truth, only apologists will defend the insane mobile dependence. At least you aren't stuck with vidya consoles even when you're outside.

The Pokemon GO audience and followers are pretty much the most recent version of selfie maniacs, farmville zombies, ice bucket challenge retards and internet virtue signalers.

This did more damage to Pokemon as a whole than advertising, I think even TPC has realized this thing has created more problems and controversies than any TCG, console game and anime has ever made. Some people are just stupid and maybe are unaware of it but this app
only helped them doing a public coming out and news articles you wouldn't be proud of.

While pokemon GO has had its share of controversies, you must either be underage or oblivious to realize that the GO craze and its so-called cultural concerns pale in comparison to all the chaos of Pokemania in the late nineties and the year 2000.

Are you kidding? Do you not remember the soccer moms and other religious leader screaming that pokemon was indoctrinating kids into keeping demons and fostering satanism within schools? All the studies that linked video games to poor behavior and/or violence constantly citing pokemon battles? It was all due to the rise in neo-conservatism at the time and the then-mainstream ignorance of japanese gaming and anime culture which is now ubiquitous in the west, or at least America. GO only seems as cancerous to us because we are all longtime fans of pokemon and are in our little /vp/ bubble looking on the outside.

Yes, an accuse that was made against any other anime from Japan, including the super common mecha, fetish filled anime like City Hunter and Ranma1/2 or Lamu, DBZ too and many others.
They weren't upset about Pokemon only.
Pokemon just happened to be part of a bigger sphere some groups disliked.

>All the studies that linked video games to poor behavior and/or violence constantly citing pokemon battles?
Same as above.

> It was all due to the rise in neo-conservatism at the time and the then-mainstream ignorance of japanese gaming and anime culture which is now ubiquitous in the west, or at least America.
I disagree on the "mainstream ignorance", it's partially true / untrue. Some anime featured content that are widely considred taboo or inappropriate in the Western world and those animes were broadcasted as breakfast cartoons. Not like the American cartoons were any better subtle content wise.

It's true that Pokemon wasn't the only target but it did have an OVERWHELMING market penetration that those other shows never ever had with maybe the sole exception of DBZ and maybe sailor moon, which at the time were legacy shows and not a brand new phenomenon. All the 8 year olds I knew in 2000 were not watching Ranma 1/2 or Evangelion on cable. That stuff was still niche outside of the VHS market, unlike Pokemon, which was literally everywhere on every meida platform and targeted directly towards 6-12 year olds
