How long from buying Sun or Moon would it take me, a complete newbie, to get into competitive Pokemon?
Pic related because it should be a Pokemon.

you don't even need an actual game to get into competitive pokemon. try pokemon showdown.

>Beat main story
>Access to postgame area
>Find IV checker, as if it matters
>Find a destiny knot
>Build a collection of Pokemon with the Synchronize ability, of various beneficial natures
>Catch a ditto
>Lock down some way of leveling up monsters as fast as possible
That's the basics. Farm the Synchronize pokemon early, so that you can use them to get decent natures on legendaries when you find them.

Just look up the best stats and movesets for each Pokémon and make them in PKHex.

I just want some comfy 3DS competitive action.

That doesn't sound too bad, a bit much but if I end up having lots of good battles that way then it'd be worth it.

but isn't that CHEATING

To play competitive in-game, you have to spend literal hours grinding, researching movements, and breeding. It's FAR easier to play Showdown or another simulator.
