This is what I always thought would be a good place. Minneapolis, Green Bay, Detroit, St. Paul, Sudbury, Toronto, Cleveland. Enemy org. base is in lawless Chicago.

Forests, lakes, rivers abound. Desolated urban areas of Detroit and Chicago are natural areas for muk, garbodor, and others to lurk. Great Chicago fire gives great backdrop to tragic past.

After final four board ship and head to Unova region. Many baseball, hockey, football, and basketball (I think) teams abound.

I think this would be a great region.

As a person from Virginia I just came here to second the Virginia suggestion. You got the mountains and valleys in the west, the swampy coast, the big urban areas in the center and north. Throw in some more rustic Civil War-style towns to get more of the history feel.
