Alola's map is an exact depiction of the overworld (much like ORAS map), while Kalos is a simplified one
that's why you can see how small Alola is just by looking at the stylized map while the Kalos one gives no indication

SM were developped before XY were even out
And XY were better received than Gen 5, so you're whole argument is garbage
That's why SM are closer from gen 6 than from Gen 5 (old pokemon very present, few new pokemon...etc)
