>The abundance of sunlight on Alola’s islands allows the Alolan Tropius to produce a more bountiful and varied harvest of fruits! Because it has a seemingly endless amount of fruit pouring forth from its body, the Alolan Tropius is incapable of flight, but the fruits spilling from its neck and tail are sweeter, juicier, and filled with more nutrients. It likes to share its fruit with Pokémon and small children.

Your mileage may vary.

>A more laid-back demeanor benefits the Alolan Electrode since, in a region with a small amount of land such as Alola, the people have a lower tolerance for the Bomb Ball eating electricity then exploding. As a result, less-volatile and gentler Electrode have evolved, ones that are more comfortable with the company of humans. They’ve developed an unique pattern that invites beachgoers to play with them! They primarily feed off of static electricity.

Alolan Koffing.jpg

>In most regions, Koffing is known for emitting toxic gases. However, after being exposed to the tropical climates and luscious plant life of Alola, its body started emitting pleasant aromas and took on this form.

>Alolan Koffing is often seen consuming flowers and other pleasant-smelling substances in order to release gases from its body. This gas emits a soothing fragrance that can immediately relax both humans and pokémon. Since its body is no longer filled with toxic gases, Alolan Koffing cannot levitate like ones in other regions, so it travels by rolling like a ball- thereby expelling the gases in a stream-like style.
>>
File: Alolan Weezing.jpg (480KB, 1280x1651px)
Alolan Weezing.jpg
480KB, 1280x1651px
>The Alolan Weezing is often found in forests and open fields. This pokémon is also popular in gardens and flower shops, despite its appearance. It spends its days looking for the finest smelling substances around in order to consume them and expel gases from its body. These gases give off a strong aroma that’s so relaxing that it can calm the mind of any human or pokémon. Be warned, however, for being exposed to Alolan Weezing’s gases for too long may cause a person to veg out and experience slight hallucinations.

>In order to move from place to place, the tubes connecting Alolan Weezing’s heads to its back sphere have stretched and became more flexible, eventually developing into an appendage. This pokémon uses this appendage to latch its sphere onto any nearby solid objects- similar to bolas or a grappling hook- and then drags its body forward. This appendage can also be used to knock down any boulders or stumps that might block Alolan Weezing’s path

>As a result of living near volcanoes in Alola, some Lilligant have adapted to withstand higher temperatures by retaining more water in their bodies. However, they also produce a highly flammable oil that ignites easily. Because of this, Alolan Lilligant can burn constantly without drying out or combusting. At night they gather on the beaches to dance.

>After Jynx migrated into the Alola region, many of them retreated to the snowy mountains on the Southern Island. The Jynx that couldn't travel back to the cold regions adapted to the Alolan lifestyle, partaking in traditional dances alongside Bellossom and getting used to the tropical heat of the region.
Jynx have become a big part of the Alolan culture and many tourists visit the region to see the Jynx dance.

I'd imagine yes to both. The reason why Growlithe didn't react to Water Stones in the past is because it wasn't the right kind of Growlithe.

They're entirely different species, so they could evolve by level up and it won't matter. I hope they make an Ice stone though, for Vulpix, and retcon a few evolution methods like Glaceon and Leafeon. they already did something similar with Feebas anyway

>Aipom

It's eyes are now half closed and it's sitting down, leaning back on its hands, for most of its animations. It also has a small gut going.

>being fed by tourists have made the alola Aipom lazy and dependant on humans to survive.

>Ambipom

It has a bulkier body and looks more ape-like. The tails are also shortened greatly.

>The Ambipom of this reason have grown more savage as they fight one another to compete for the snacks tourists throw their way. Their tails have shrunk from never being used.

Obsidian is *extremely* brittle. I know you said lower defense but it would have to be a significant drop in defense to be realistic

Polar bears don't live in the water, they are also amazing swimmers. Imagine A. Arcanine as a Polar Bear dog.
>>
>>27532499
Yeah, it's easy to think of a justification

>People bring Growlithes and Arcanines to Alola
>No wide open plains to hunt on, too much water
>Adapt by starting to fish, growing fur that's more streamlined with water

I really hope some Alolan forms evolve into third stages. It makes the most sense for Exeggcutor since this is his true form. It would let GF give third stages to old pokemon again.

Alolans saw easily through Sudo's clever disguise, as it differs greatly from Alola's trees. To survive they had to adapt, but becoming a palm tree would mean they'd have to compete with those asshole Exeggutors, so the Sudowoodos evolved into the opposite direction, taking over a completely different niche.

nah, it's too weird.

The icey vulpix makes some sense since there are foxes that live in extremely cold environments, but a water-dog is just switching up typing for the sake of switching up typing.

A water-dog is a seal, and there are already enough seals.

Alolan Megagium
>Due to the abundance of sunlight, Alolan Meganium flourished and became larger, taller, and grew flowers more suited to Alola's environment. These gentle giants have flowers known for their healing capabilities, and Alolan Meganium often share these flowers with others in need. They are also the main source of the flowers Comfey collects. Thanks to their flowers, vibrant appearance, and motherly nature, Alolan Meganium attract many people and Pokemon from around the world.

>>27536964
Hmm... still too much of a stretch for me.

A growlith just doesn't strike me as so genetically unstable / prone to evolution that it would change its typing that drastically.

Maybe I'm over-analyzing but a fire type that's weak against water would stand a better chance living around volcanos and changing in other ways than it would evolving to its total opposite just to eat fish.

imo a normal type growlith that loses its fire abilities because there's no need for them on alola would make more sense.

Water type is just too out there. The transition from fire to water is a greater leap than eevee, and that's supposed to be the pokemon that's hyper-sensitive to outside influence affecting its genetic makeup.

Fire/Ghost Emboar. Large Boat shipments of Tepig were to be sent to Alola, but the boat riding along with them carrying the food sank. Tepig, very good dependant Pokémon ended up starving and turning into spirits, gaining the ghost type. On the downside, it's speed is disturbingly low, never being able to outspeed it's opponent. When it evolves, Magcargo is Rock/Steel, and it's defence is unbeatable.

I think the fact that growlith is a dog makes this more unbelievable than any other pokemon though.

Keeping the fire-to-water transition in mind, IRL dogs evolved alongside humans and they wouldn't be on an isolated island unless introduced to that island in relatively recent history.

If people disagree, that's fine. But a fire-to-water type growlith + the idea that it evolved separately on an island just feels like it's breaking too many "rules" of the pokemon universe to me.

Would rather see almost a normal/dark/ground type growlith.

Mammals live in cold environments though.
Only dolphins and whales are the exception.

In my mind, the ice vulpix retained its fire in its core to heat its body, while its breathing/special power fire was converted to ice to ward off predators or prey who approach its cold habitat in an otherwise hot and humid environment.

Something I made in another thread that's dying so I'll retoast here.

Normal/Fighting male Kangaskhan

I tried taking features from Mega Kangaskhan like the chest bumps which look kind of like a belt. I also took features from kickboxing gear such as boxing tape and ankle guards. Oh and it's red because red kangaroos I guess. I figured it shouldn't be blue like the baby or brown like the mother. I've always wanted a kickboxing kangaroo so ideally it learns a bunch of kick moves like Mega Kick and Hi Jump Kick and gets No Guard as it's ability when Mega.

As for explanation of why it's Male only in Alola, I guess I'll take inspiration from Nile crocodiles. The thing about Nile crocs is their gender when hatching depends on the temperature. Too cold or too hot and it's a female croc. There's like a 3 degree C range for being a male. Since Alola is sunny year round we can assume it's a constant temperature and happens to be just right for male Kangaskhan.

Art is thanks to a kind drawfriend!

Alolan Tangrowth
Grass/Water
Abilities: Swift Swim, Water Absorb
Hidden Ability: Storm Drain

HP: 100
Attack: 80
Defense: 50
Sp. Atk: 110
Sp. Def: 125
Speed: 70

The lush paradise of Alola is home to many native grass-types, and its fringes contain a great deal of fire and ice-types. Due to this fierce competition for space, one breed of Tangrowth adapted to life beneath the waves where fewer natural predators could get at them. In time their feet became better suited for paddling, and they developed transparent covers over their eyes so that they could see clearly even underwater. Their vines took on the qualities of seaweed, allowing them to both absorb water in greater quantities and hide within kelp forests. This adaptation enhanced their speed, but in the process drastically diminished their physical resiliency.

Alolan Tangrowth typically allow their vines to drift for dozens of feet overhead, waiting for prey to brush past before grabbing them and pulling them down into the depths.

I ended up trying to draw this, so here's a rough concept.

Bug/Ice Paras gains a coat of fur/hair (whatever bugs have) to keep it warm in the snowy mountaintops, and Parasect gets an Ice Climbers-esque coat.
Meanwhile pure Grass Paras becomes paler and gets more mushrooms thanks to the warm climate in the jungles, and Parasect's entire body becomes part of the mushroom, including root-like legs.

Thoughts? I'm not quite satisfied with the colors, so if anybody has suggestions for anything, I'm all ears.

I feel like the top ones should be Grass/Poison, rather than pure grass, if the mushrooms have totally taken over. I like the concept of Parasect's body basically wasting away to the point where it just serves as a skeleton to the mushroom, which has its own legs to move around with.

Yeti-crab paras/parasect is cute. Maybe have Parasect's head tucked in a bit more, so that it's mainly just the eyes that are seen peeking out?

Regirock: Rock/Grass, basically a more weathered version covered in moss and vines, the result of spending years dormant deep within Alola's jungles.

Regice: Ice/Water, capable of freely shifting between water's matter states so it can move from Alola's snowy peaks to its beaches without causing severe environmental damage in its wake.

Registeel: Steel/Fire, partially molten from spending extended periods within volcanoes. Alternatively perhaps Steel/Electric, becoming a big saline battery after filling its hollow body with Alolan saltwater.

Regigigas: Normal/Ghost, having been reinvigorated and empowered by the spirits of Alola after centuries of meditative dormancy deep beneath the islands. Physically mostly the same, but with eyes/markings that glow with spiritual energy.

Ability: Clear Body
Hidden Ability: Natural Cure

Why are people giving alolan forms like its a tropical theme?

It's obviously not. They made Vulpix into an arctic fox and sandslash into an igloo.

It is based on region, the mountainous areas are colder but as the bulk of the region is tropical so that's the go to. Plus we've already seen two lots of ice retypes.
>>
I still don't know if I like Alola form pokemon. I feel like the unique types could have been new pokemon or stuff like Exeggutor could have been an evolution/mega. I'm sure it will grow on me but it just seems like such a weird thing to introduce this late into the series.
>>
Have they confirmed any stat differences or will the only difference between normal and Alola pokemon be typing?

Would make more sense if it was Slurpuff.

I wonder if some Alolan forms will keep the same type ? But maybe change ability and some stats.

It's not interresting to anyone else to simply see recolors of existing artworks with a supposed type.

anyone got an alolan snorlax?
>>
>>27543587
Probably. I made it for another thread that asked for a Lickitung form and that's all I could think of for it haha. While that's a great idea, I'm doubtful since they care more about the "wow" factor than balance or subtle, enjoyable changes.

Instead of changing everything about the pokemon for alola forms, why not just reskin the pokemon so that other trainers know you got it from Pokémon Sun/Moon?

Alolan Piloswine (and by extension swinub)

Swinub: "Those who were unable to find their way to the mountains adapted to the mainland; unfortunately, they have become somewhat of a pest."

Piloswine: "Piloswine is no longer suited to the cold have had adapted to Alola. Due to not being indigenous to the area, it has forgotten it's prehistoric power."

Both have shorter hair, though its mainly apparent on Piloswine, due to how hairy they are. Hair is as short as it can be without them looking unrecognizable.

Type: Normal/Ground (Lost Ice as mentioned in the pokedex entry. Normal allows it to replace some moves for coverage, while also making it not a poor man's Hippodown.)
Ability: Unaware (Pokedex again.)
Now as Alolan Piloswines can't learn ancient power (again, alluded to in the pokedex) there is no way of them naturally evolving, (can learn it through breeding but since it's channeling prehistoric power, would evolve into a regular Mamoswine.) However because it's still technically capable of evolving, it can benefit from using an Eviolite.

Among some normal moves and coverage moves, it also gains slack off as pigs are known to be lazy (Plus like Hawaii IRL, feral pigs have minimal predators and an abundance of food.)

CONT
Set wise I'm thinking
Piloswine @ Eviolite
Ability: Unaware
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- (Coverage)

Alola Snorlax
Normal/Fighting
Slow Start
Because of the high temperatures on Alola, Snorlax here are much skinnier, this however doesn't mean that they are more active and are still found mostly sleeping. When awakend however these Snorlax are known to be a lot more vicious than others of the species and lash out with fierce fighting moves.

It doesn't.
The dirt "around" it is its body.

And Dugtrio isn't three diglett. It grows two more heads

Hmm... still too much of a stretch for me.

A vulpix just doesn't strike me as so genetically unstable / prone to evolution that it would change its typing that drastically.

Maybe I'm over-analyzing but a fire type that ice is weak against would stand a better chance living around volcanos and changing in other ways than it would evolving to its total opposite just to play in the snow.

imo a ghost type vulpix that loses its fire abilities because there's no need for them on alola would make more sense.

Ice type is just too out there. The transition from fire to ice is a greater leap than eevee, and that's supposed to be the pokemon that's hyper-sensitive to outside influence affecting its genetic makeup.

I'd like to post some original content but I don't got any ideas

Ice type Vulpix is pretty dumb.
But then again, I'm just glad to see Game Freak shaking things up a bit for once.
