What are the best core games in the series?

Depends what you're after.

Platinum is a cozy game full of atmosphere and not much else.

BW/2 have the best gameplay and have the most to do, but its region is slightly uninspired.

X/Y look the best and you can molest your pokemon.

Someone (I think Junichi Masuda) said that he wants to surprise people when it comes to the games. He's the reason why we have BW2 and no Z or Grey.

Are there any emulators where it is possible to trade/battle with other emulator users? Or is multiplayer only possible for people who have a Gameboy/DS?
