Wonderlocked my last AS playthrough. Got a lot of Zigzagoon. But got a Dieno, Skrelp and Shroomish that stayed with me from beginning to end.

Just beat my first Nuzlocke. Went into Elite 4 with Onix, Exeggutor, and Blastoise, all level 55. Lost Onix to Dragonair. Used Exeggutor to take on Venusaur. Blastoise one shotting the final 'mon, Arcanine, with a critted Surf after taking 2 extremespeeds in a row made me feel like a bad-ass.

depends how much of a challenge you're looking for
For a first nuzlocke, I'd say X if you're looking to win first try (if you use exp share and get the right catches) or yellow/sapphire or heartgold to red if you want a harder one....also X without exp share is slightly harder than with, but its still easy if you know the base game

I'm currently on my 8th attempt at a Black Nuzlocke. After wiping at the 1st-4th gym 7 times I finally made it to Victory Road. This run has been insane and most of my pokemon are dead or useless. VS runs have different rules depending on who's doing them, I usually say race to the end yes but also battle after every 2nd gym (though consider our battles a "simulation" if you will and nothing that dies in those battles counts) and after endgame (if we both make it that far)

Some people add rules like loser gives away a pokemon or that the battles deaths count, depends on whos running it

If you want slower game but more mechanics, play hgss....if you just wanna blaze through it quickly emulate crystal and play with speedup when necessary

If your computer isn't a toaster and you have the dynamic recompiler enabled, you should be able to speed it up a fair bit. Not quite as fast as crystal can be, though.

I made it myself with Moemon Fire Red Revival, the moemon sprite resource folder, Mrdollsteak's patch, inserting and replacing by hand 40 old mon with 40 new mons, adjusting some evolutions to be viable without trade and day/night, minor tweaks (selling moon and sun stone in celadon department store, reading the sign in your room next to the stairs flags national dex, etc), randomizing it to preference via UPRandomizer and finally going back in and fixing the Fairy type since UPrandomizer will set it to ??? Type for the Pokemon and Moves (only takes a few minutes to fix).
I'm at Lavender Town's Tower now, just caught Aron.
There's a glitch with Aron's Pokedex entry. I might want to fix it.

Yea I've been there. I lost to May before Mauvile town in my alpha sapphire run because I had a dark type, a normal type and a grass type. Her Combuskin destroyed everything with double kick.

Even though Gen 6 is my least liked gen, I'd recommend XY for originals due to the massive amount of variety. In terms of ROMhacks (difficulties) any of them is good, except for Rutil Ruby/Star Sapphire, unless you're an xtreme masochist.

Seldt here. For my 3rd Nuzlocke attempt (1st died early, 2nd is at >>27524428 ), that I'd play Fire Red Omega. Supposedly this is an insane beefed up version of the game with different starters. I'll have a new 1000-hour MS-paint tracking image up shortly.

You could have fished a Tentacool in Dewford, Slateport, or the coast routes using the Old Rod. That's enough chances to find one.

Omega Ruby is the worse game in that aspect: The Numel from the Magma grunt at the Slateport museum is absolute horror if you didn't choose Mudkip or found a Wingull: It has Lava Plume and Magnitude and it will, at the very least, 2KHO everything you can have at that point in the game. The only solution to the problem is grinding, either a Magikarp or a Tentacool till it learns Water Pulse at 16, and in the case of the latter, you can't even let it attack or it could use Magnitude and kill you.

It's like a miniature Primal Groudon fight. That fight alone is the main reason why Omega Ruby is harder to Nuzlocke than Alpha Sapphire.

Considering a randomised nuzlocke. I've never played Platinum or BW2. Which would you suggest? Would it be better to keep them as the original and nuzlocke that way? I've never really finished a nuzlocke in general because I get bored, largely because I avoid losing Pokemon quite effectively.
Any other rulesets that don't make it more restrictive but could stop that? Cap HP recovery items?

Its evolved since then, I just had the sooth bell on it at the time. Golbat took the place of my Golem who perished fighting Claire. I also lost my Ampharos in the league. I'll be doing a run of Platinum next with a few mystery eggs at the start.

This. Hell, they even cut out the grinding episodes so we can't even enjoy the bantz while they over level their team to no end. Plus the headbutt/fishing giving them an extra catch per route thing is just awful, totally breaks the spirit of the challenge. I let the event Pokemon thing slide on their FireRed run (with getting both Eevee and Dratini) but this is too much, there's literally no drama or challenge.

I've seen some good challenge variants that make the game much harder. Some people do item only runs where they're not allowed to use a Pokemon Center and others where they can only heal at a center. It just depends. For me, I usually stick to this and I get plenty of mishaps/shenanigans

-randomized, similar strength, only rival Mon is changed (currently playing Platinum)
-Only 1 Pokemon at same level as gym leader 's best, all others must be lower to prevent over grinding
-duplicates clause

That's my personal favorite way to play but really whatever gives you the most fun and challenge is how you should play.

Route 34, compoundeyes Butterfree got it with Sleep Powder and I caught it on the second turn. From there it was just trade evolving with a friend.

What are the rules for using fishing rods in a nuzlocke?

First fish you hook on that route is your catch for the route. Its the same as headbutting a tree or walking in grass (unless you're TFS).

I tend to only use the fishing rods in ponds / lakes of towns, as they tend to yield the same / similar mons as the ones on routes but there's no grass.

This is how I apply it:
If a town has a coast, fishing rod is a-ok
If a route has a coast, don't catch a 'mon with a rod unless you absolutely need a water type or there are no alternative methods to getting pokemon

My faithful Swalot just received the ogre dick from Kyogre, and he was my plan for getting through the water gym.

Fire Red Omega is old but pretty good in that regard, the first Drayano rom-hack (the guy who made blaze black / sacred gold / etc)

Otherwise you can also try all the semi-old rom-hacks from before battle script hacking was a thing in the completed section of the hacks forum on the Nuzforums

Gen 6 nuzlockes are hit and miss
Sometimes they're a cakewalk and sometimes there a bloodbath.
Once did a Y nuzlocke that was basically Aurorus watches everything that it had ever known be washed away in a torrent of blood. Fucker was one hell of an asset to the team, or what little survived, anyway.

I find that the level curve can get a bit wonky towards the end (mainly that massive increase in levels Cyrus gets), and Fantina and Maylene still make me want to kill myself in a normal diamond playthrough. It should at least be challenging.

I have two specials rules in my nuzlocke.

The first one, don't use Pokemon you already used in past runs. The second one, I can't have Pokemon with the same type in the team, except if one of those Pokemons will evolve into something different (so, Rapion into Drascore or Scyther into Scizor on this pic)

Any way to improve performance on emulators? playing normal platinum and the laggyness is making want to just not play. never played platinum before either.

Just had my first bloodbath in a while.

Jesus it's my own fault for not having Froakie evolved by then. Luckily I ran into a Venipede along route 7.

I am doing a Wonderlocke but am wonder trading until I get a lvl 1 pokemon. So far I've got Exeggcute, Pidgey, Fem Ralts, Klefki and Eevee. Trying to find a 6th lvl 1 but its taking forever.
