By Gen 13 they'll have started getting really abstract with the designs. Gemini could be literally ANY animal as long as it reflects 'twins', such as two Pokemon that share a mind and count as one Pokemon (think Dugtrio-esque), could be a two headed Pokemon like Doduo, etc.

Virgo could be any animal taking the shape of an innocent feminine humanoid. Probably Fairy type unless a new type exists by then (undoubtedly will.)

Saggitarius is commonly represented by a centaur. You don't have to be that creative to think of how a centaur Pokemon would look.

Libra could be a Pokemon themed on balance in various ways. A Zen themed animal (like a monkey, a lizard, etc) based on a monk? Fire/Psychic or Fire/Fighting. Maybe by then they'll add Light.

Dogs are literally a subspecies of Wolf. So a wolf starter could believably be a stand-in for a dog.
The same can't be said for Foxes. Not only are they a different species, they have very different symbolism in Chinese culture and mythology -- Dogs are seen as loyal, and sometimes divine, while Foxes are seen as mischievous and malevolent. They're associated with magic, which is why literally every Fox pokemon is associated with mysticism (Vulpix, Abra, Zorua, Fennekin lines)

Cyndaquil in both Japanese and English is called the Fire Mouse pokemon. Which still isn't a rat, but close enough. Gamefreak probably hadn't thought of the Zodiac theme until after Gen III. Denialfags have this as their strongest argument.

Fennekin is another weak link for fans of the theory. Fennekin was deliberately made into a Fox (still a Canid) not to throw off Zodiac, but because every region since gen III I want to say has had an early-game dog Pokemon. Would you be half as interested in Rockfur if Litten was a dog instead of a cat? Probably not.

Litten amuses me. In the Chinese Zodiac, the cat was specifically excluded because it was tricked by the Rat (and presumably drowned in a river). However, it evolves into a Tiger. Almost seems like a cheeky nod from Gamefreak.

I support the Zodiac theory, but there isn't much point arguing it. Just like all the retards who thought the final starter leaks were fake despite overwhelming proof; you'll never convince them until the entire zodiac is filled in. Personally can't wait for a fire rabbit.
