Mega evolution was unlikely but possible. Freaking Beedrill got a mega evo that made it useful so why no Sandslash.
But I feel all hope is lost now.

A sensible mega, with special attack dropped to non existent levels ala Beedrill for starters. Then you can go 2 ways, either you put that into speed and attack (while also potentially keeping Sand Rush) or you put it into defences to make it more bulky, and maybe you cut the speed even more.
