They're just differen't pokemon, period. Just imagine they renamed Nidoran(female) to Nidogril or something. They're just not the same pokemon, even though they have the same name. It's retarded, but there's no way to fix it this far into the series.

I don't get why keeping the original 151 is such sacred cow. Fuck it, condense and reorganize everything. Nidoran M/F are a single species, but different sexes. Tauros and Miltank same thing. Put babies, and cross gen evos where they belong in the Dex (Elekid->Electabuzz->Electivire should all be in order next to each other), reorganize the gen 5 legendaries so the genies, dragons, and ponies are next to each other. Put Regigigas with the other Regis, whatever.

The National Dex has needed reorganization since Gen 2
