So I know I'm a bit late to the party but..
Do you think they're consciously going for some kind of convergent evolution thing here? Or just shamelessly rehashing the archetype?
I mean, there's no way they haven't noticed that none of the later rodents have been nearly as popular as Pikachu, so it can't be a matter of trying to find a "new big popular 'mon" or anything, right?
So, deepest lore or not?
It makes for good merch to another new rodent alongside Pikachu as far as I've seen, also shameless reuse of the concept just because, also Pikachu is available at almost every regional dex
I don't mind them design wise, I like seeing how they adapt each gen. None of them are really viable though, they need evolutions really.
I know people hate them though.

I haven't seen any merch related to any of the new ratmons take off very well though. And they don't seem to be as advertised as the starters and some other select Pokemon in much any gen either.

I get the distinct impression it's Japan only.

>Electric rodents
>Balls on cheeks
>Zigzag patterns
Is why I threw out the intentional convergent evolution thing, who knows when they'll come up with official evolutionary relations to all the rats
