Pretty much the diverse colorful birds of tropical region.

Rio wasn't real, Anon.

Pretty sure they're based off the finches from the Galapagos. How the same species evolved to be different over time based on where they lived on the island. This is just a caricature of that premise.

Probably the Darwin's finches thing and/or birds of paradise

I believe they are all Birds of Paradise. Known for their elaborate mating dances and variety of color palettes.

It's based on birds of paradise in general, which are known for their colorful plumage and dancing to attract mates. It's appearance is based on a flamenco dancer.
>>
I'm guessing it's also partially based on the flamingo, seeing how it changes colors based on what it eats.

Based on the island variations and the curved beak, I think it's loosely based on the Hawaiian honeycreepers. They all diversified from an ancestral finch that arrived on the islands and evolved to suit different habitats. Very colorful, cool birds.

This kind of thing happens in archipelagos around the world. Fun fact: the famous Darwin finches in the Galapagos are not real finches. They probably evolved from a member of the tanager family.
