the locational stuff like leafeon and probopass was able to just be put in analogous locations, but in a non-alola game these wouldn't make much sense, I could see them just leaving these varients exclusive to SM for as long as it remains compatible with future stuff

Megas are most likely taking a back seat for the new features introduced in SM and are gonna either be a late-game or post-game thing. I'm hoping they learned from ORAS and don't plan on revealing all the new megas before the game comes out, which actually seem likely since it looks like exploration is encouraged in Alola.
