No actually. It's the consistent misuse of the word that has caused its meaning to begin to shift. It's completely acceptable to resist this shift by "correcting" people. Nobody is really "right" or "wrong" because words don't have any intrinsic meaning, but if I think it's a shame that a word is losing its meaning due to people's laziness to apply a wider vocabulary, then correcting people is one way of counteracting that semantic shift, however futile it may be.
