Due to recent Pokemon Go hype I decided to go through the pokemon games. Played Pokemon Yellow years ago, and now just finished Leaf Green.
Should I continue on as the games released, which would be:
>Crystal > Emerald > Platinum > BW > BW2 > X
Or should I play them as they got updated
>HGSS > ORAS > Platinum > BW > BW2 > X
Yellow/FireRed/Leafgreen -> Emerald -> Platinum -> HG/SS -> Black/White -> Black/White 2 -> X/Y

This, exactly this.
Remember to do Black and Black 2, or White and White 2, not either or.

Don't bother with XY and ORAS (just play Emerald). The graphics are pretty yes, but that's all both pairs have going for them.

It's really up to you. I'd argue to skip the originals entirely and just play the remade versions (so skip RBY, GSC, RSE and play FRLG, HGSS, and ORAS instead), but people'll probably hate me for suggesting skipping the sacred cow that is Emerald. It's up to you if you want to play the clunky originals or not. Granted, the RBY games are the most guilty of being a slogfest, and you've gotten through that and enjoyed it then Gen2 and 3 should be easy.

This too unfortunately. Gen 6 had been overall the most disappointing generation yet.

> Don't bother with XY and ORAS
top quality meme A+ you're so funny
Fuck, this copy of Emerald when booted up says "the internal battery has run dry, the game can be played (and saved) but clock based events will not occur"
What are "clock based events"?

A cave very late in the game. You will be missing out on like 1 pokemon that is out of the way to get.
