I really think it will end in a tie. Ash has always been portrayed as superior to Shota, as his teacher. But Alain as always been on par with Ash, despite his victories, it never seemed like he was above Ash in terms of skill.

If Ash wins against him it will be too cliche in the sense of "oh boy I've lost against this guy every time, and I finally won!"

Literally nobody called him "Alain" before the dub called him that, while pronouncing it completely differently from how the original says it.
Then Japanese merchandise revealed he actually IS called Alan in nip, not "Alain".

Then the dub company is much dumber than I thought, since "Alain" is supposed to sound like "Alan". And I thought they were smart enough to find a valid French spelling on a very common name, and it turns out they were wrong all along.
