Enormous, full 3-d world, entirely redesigned regions, much much larger, entirely new storyline, progress through kanto in a different way, add loads of locations mentioned or visited in the anime for filler towns/routes. Orange Islands, Sevii Islands, etc. etc.

Elite-4 post Kanto ~lv.40-50, progress through Johto, all new and redesigned with different plot, no elite four; just an anime styled pokemon league for super top tier trainers and side characters and shit.

Go balls out. Make a seriously deep pokemon game for once.

They're necessary though.

They fix a lot of the issues. When people say they like Gen 3 or Gen 4 they aren't talking about the main duo. They're always taking about Emerald and Platinum. More or less the same with Gen 2, and though they don't always know it they certainly are when they talk about Red and Blue.

The original release is our beta, the third version is our actual game. Almost everytime.

I don't hate XY but I certainly think it needed a Z version to fix some of it's missteps.

Honestly, my one desire is to have a game where I can take a single trainer through all the regions, and collect all the badges. Take all the team rocket bad guys out of the games, just let me go on a world wide pokemon journey.

I have no idea how you would do the leveling or anything. Maybe make it so each regional league has specific allowable pokemon.
