I've noticed that nearly all fakemon starters fall into that trap. I'm not sure why.

That and people tend to have great starters with poor evos. Perhaps they just make them bigger because they wanna keep the good qualities of that first one.

This criticism makes it so difficult to make starters. It's also the struggle to make them "perfect" as they're incredibly important to the Pokedex.
My starters have gone through a lot of changes, but I fear that one still has the "it just gets bigger" syndrome.

It's not just that they're bigger, it's that a lot of them expand perfectly and logically on the designs in a boring way that most real starters don't, at least not any more. A fan might have drawn a large chicken for Torchics evo, instead of something like Blazicken

Bulbasaur and Chikorita at least have a natural progression of prominent aspect of their body (bulb->flower or seeds->flower) to keep them interesting and Charmander literally grows wings which makes it way different.

I kind of sort of like them, but the art-style is hideous, those tacky highlights take any life out of the drawing and Floruca needs to be almost completely redesigned.

I never got the "it gets bigger" meme.
The best Pokemon are the ones that keep along a tradition, along a certain concept for the line. Ones that throw away the concept for a brand new design are always the worst lines. This is the reason so many cross-gen evos suck, because they're made too long after and the original concept has been forgotten.

These seem troublesome to me. I could see the fire one being Fire/Bug from the very beginning but the other 2 don't need their secondary typings yet. The grass rodent really is "just gets bigger". It doesn't even add details like the others do.

Normal/Dark, probably has Fluffy as an ability or something.

Paiwee is the smaller one, it pretends to be a pillow and chews on people's hair while they sleep.
Blemm is the big one, it's based off of old myths of headless cannibals.
