If a series does work within the time that makes a character significant, they should and it works in their favor for advertisement

Pokemon specifically doesn't have a main cast of characters which makes a specific situation

So it's biggest draw is using the popular Pokemon in that time

Which is why we got Pokemon Trainer cut off specifically for Charizard to be alone as well as Greninja to represent Gen 6

Gen 7 will be skipped over just like gen 3 and 5
